Bare Boat

The term describes renting a yacht for sailing independently, a yacht with sails, a catamaran, or a motorized yacht. Prior experience is required in the field of sailing but it is possible to hire a professional skipper who will sail the yacht for you.
The popular sizes for renting are in the range 30 to 50 feet with the number of cabins varying according to the size and structure of the boat.
The yachts are equipped with everything needed for the voyage, mooring and routine operation, including blankets, towels and a galley, but without special additions such as surf-glider or spinnaker. You can rent these separately. In some cases a dinghy is included in the price but sometimes it is considered as an extra.

To rent a yacht you do not need to present a sailing license but you need a broad experience and appropriate skills to prove your capability to sail the yacht alone. The rental companies want to be convinced that the renter has experience in sailing a yacht of the relevant or a similar size and can require from the renter, at his own expense, to take on a skipper if they get an impression that it is necessary. In countries such as Greece and Turkey they require a license for sailing a speedboat or yacht. If you do not have such a license you must present documentation that testifies to your marine experience.
